SUMMARY:

This research proposes an investigation into the teaching of writing practices in English as a foreign language, in Technical Professional Education of High School Level in Minas Gerais. We propose to survey the perceptions of English language teachers about written communication practices in English. In times of globalization and expansion of the English language, the language is established as the language of research, science and technology (BRYDON, 2009). Hyland (2007), exposes that English seems to become less a language than a basic academic skill for many users around the world. In this scenario, the student in his school formation seeks educational opportunities through his participation in the world of global and multicultural context. Based on this, we seek to understand how literacy teaching practices enable students to be in contact with discursive practices in the academic context. As for the theoretical framework, this research will adopt the perspective of literacy within the social dimension, as presented by the authors Soares (2009), Hyland (2004, 2007, 2009) and Street (1998). The academic literacy approach, more aligned with New Literacy Studies, recognizes literacy as social practices. Although the term academic literacy is commonly attributed to the context of higher education, its concept can also be applied to k-12 education. This study type is defined as applied research, with qualitative and exploratory approach in relation to its objectives. The methodological procedures and instruments for generating data in this research aim to generate data of qualitative nature. It is expected to understand the writing practices activities and the writing needs in English of students of Technical Professional Education of High School level in MG.
