SUMMARY:

From the practical experience of working with text revision and technical writing in the area of Software Documentation in Information Technology (IT) companies specialized in data processing and system solutions, I seek, in this master's research, to discuss the performance of the technical proofreader/editor who works with the manualization of technical documents, in the review and retextualization process, transforming the software documentation into the technical manual textual genre, which describes the usability of the system for its end user. The technical proofreader/editor is the professional who simultaneously performs the activities of reviewing and writing technical documents in an IT company. The relevance of this research lies in the proposal to undertake an investigation, not yet done in previous studies, about the activities of the technical reviewer/editor, a professional responsible for mediating between the services and products of software solutions, developed and offered by IT companies, and the consumer public of these products and services. The corpus of this research consists of three technical manuals from three IT companies and their respective software documents that served as the basis for the production of the manuals. The adopted methodology is documental, of content analysis, in which I try to analyze the interventions and textual changes that occur in the technical manuals of these companies, through operations of revision and retextualization. To conduct the research, I sought theoretical support, especially in: Benfica (2014), Marcuschi (2001), Oliveira (2010) and Matencio (2022) who address retextualization operations and, in: Galvão (2003); Wales (2020); Rocha (2022) and Van Dijk (1997), who deal with technical writing in the process of retextualization.
