SUMMARY:

The main objective of this doctoral research in Language Studies is to identify and analyze the conceptual metaphors of women in three works by Ziraldo – “Uma professor muito maluquinha” (1995); “The Supermom” (1996); “Meninas” (2016) – in order to understand how the female universe is conceptualized and represented in these children's books. Furthermore, this thesis aims to compare the metaphors that emerge from these works considering the semantic-ideological content and establishing relationships between the concepts and metaphors in these texts, presenting the particularities and/or similarities of each one when conceptualizing the feminine. For this, it is based on the theoretical assumptions of Lakoff and Johnson (1980, 2002) with regard to verbal metaphors, more precisely, the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, as well as multimodal metaphors, Forceville's Multimodal Metaphor Theory ( 1996, 2008, 2009) and is also based on the French Discourse Analysis, with emphasis on studies by Pêcheux (1988, 1990, 1997), to analyze how the discursive and imagery processes are constructed in order to allow that a certain ideology (Marx and Engels, 2002) about women is established in society, through metaphors. The results pointed to the idea that there are no absolute metaphors, they are cultural, therefore, mapping becomes relevant for certain civilizations and/or ideologies. Therefore, the experientialist conception of researchers Lakoff and Johnson as well as Marx and Engels is confirmed. By conceptualizing mainly “ideology”, these researchers point to the idea that despite there being a certain cultural systematicity of values, there are often conflicts between these values and, therefore, between the metaphorical conceptions themselves, since both values and metaphors are constructed from each individual's experience in the world. In this sense, this research pointed out that, although metaphors are not absolute, they emerge and are reinforced or not in a given social group, as they affect and are affected by the cultural context in which they permeate.
