CARTOSEMIOTICS OF THE MAP GENRE: For cartographic literacy in schools
School Cartography; Cartosemiotics; Cartographic literacy; Genre map; Multiliteracy.
In this research it is discussed School Cartography. The proposal was to investigate how the assumptions of cartographic literacy, implicit in the BNCC (Brazilian Common National Curriculum Base) for the High School segment, are explored in maps from a collection of textbooks from the Geography curricular component. This is because, with the advances in the discussion on School Cartography, the promulgation of the BNCC and the reform of High School, it is expected that the textbooks approved by the PNLD (Brazilian National Textbook Program) will distance themselves from the so far common practices of predominance of cartographic literacy and the teaching of map by the map. During the research, cartographic representation in maps was considered due to its character as a discursive genre and textual genre, that is, based on its idea of enunciation. These maps were analyzed from the perspective of cartosemiotics based on The Grammar of Visual Design. Therefore, authors from the areas of Cartography, Languages and Teaching were listed. As a result, it is clear that textbooks have reformulated their way of approaching School Cartography. Increasingly, maps appear contextualized with real problems, in multimodal texts and with proposals that enable the promotion of literacy. Therefore, this research reinforces the importance of a textbook in line with literature and legislation. But, beyond that, the valorization of the teachers' career and their continued education is a must; so that they can follow the advances in discussions on School Cartography and other topics that are their responsibility to teach. Also, teachers must have decent working conditions that enable them to enhance the use of a good textbook.
