SUMMARY:

The object of study of this research is the career of Education Technicians in a municipal public network in the interior of Minas Gerais and focuses on the effects of meaning intended by the discourse present in municipal laws, relating to selection criteria, functions, policies public initiatives to value the class, in the educational historical period between “Rural Teaching Advisor” (1963) and “Education Technician” (2023). The corpus was extracted from Municipal Laws and documents from the Municipal Department of Education, as well as data collected from a review of the literature concerning Education Technicians. We seek to answer questions such as: Who is this professional? What are the public policies for valuing this professional? What are your functions and responsibilities? Does this nomenclature mischaracterize or reframe the function? To conduct this bibliographic and documentary research, we used Bardin's Content Analysis (2020) as a theoretical basis, as it allows us to “manipulate messages (content and expression of that content)” to reveal indicators capable of guiding our inferences. For our reflection on the origin, functions and different nomenclatures of “Education Technicians,” throughout the Brazilian "Educational Supervision", we rely on Libâneo (2010), Freire (2019,2021), Vasconcellos (2019), Saviani ( 2019), Grinspun (2008), Santos (2012), Matos (2018) Rangel (2003) among others. Thus, we “hope”, with this work, to provide a broader understanding of municipal legislation, its repercussions on public educational policies and, mainly, to promote the implementation of the Career Plan. Therefore, we propose a study group to promote a constructive dialogue between theory and practice and to review and improve educational policies, aiming at an equitable, democratic education aligned with the real needs of professionals and students in the municipal public network.
