The teaching of pedagogical practices of academic writing in English in vocational technical education at the middle level in MG
English teaching. EPTNM. Teaching writing. Academic literacy. Genre-based teaching.
This work aims to investigate whether the activities of English written production in high school and technical education at a specific institution encompass the approach of academic genres, seeking to understand how the activities are developed by English language teachers, relating them to the social practices of the academic context experienced by students in the institution. During the research, English language teachers at the institution where the research was conducted described their didactic-pedagogical practices, as well as their views on the teaching of academic writing from high school technical education. The generated data were analyzed from the perspective of literacies within the social dimension, genre-based teaching, and discourse genres. As a result, it is perceived that the majority of participating teachers report having already addressed academic writing in English in high school technical education. However, the participants present divergent perspectives on the relevance of developing pedagogical practices of academic writing in technical high school education, reflecting different conceptions of educators regarding teaching and learning. In summary, the developed research allowed bringing a perspective on the teaching of academic writing in English in technical high school education, seeking to understand the relationship between the academic practices experienced by students in the institution and the activities developed by teachers. With this research, I intended to contribute to studies on pedagogical practices of academic literacy in English, in the context of technical high school education. Considering that there are many studies on academic literacies focused on the context of higher education, I sought to reflect on the possibility of exploring this approach in another educational context, within an institution that promotes the verticalization of education, combining teaching, research, and extension.
