SUMMARY:

This research focuses on the work of the artist Rosângela Rennó and the circumstances that revolve around the concept of multitude. Firstly, we sought to develop a kind of genealogy of his way of operating with image, photographic or verbal textual collections and archives. In his enterprise of image ecology, an archaeological action is evident that mobilizes discursivities through archives appropriated and put back into circulation. Secondly, we sought to bring this creative process of the artist closer to the contemporary notion of crowd, mainly from the point of view of Antonio Negri and Paolo Virno. To this end, the research was guided by converging it on the installation Operação Aranhas / Arapongas / Arapucas (2014-2016). In addition to giving the opportunity to think about the multitude as a non-centralizing collective structure that has its echoes in the way Rennó thinks and configures his art, it brings to light important moments of collective political manifestation in Brazil – the Hundred Thousand March (1968); the Movimento das Diretas and June 2013. Thus, we can see the circumstances to confront images and meanings of the attacks on our fragile democracy in different scenarios that appear in Rennó's montages. Furthermore, the relationship between the multitudinous collective structure, the conditions of production of a common from a cultural point of view, as well as the role of art in this context, were briefly discussed.
