SUMMARY:

The military dictatorship that was established in Brazil in 1964 left various marks on society and remains alive in the imagination of many people. A strong evidence of this is the constant presence of this event as theme of literary works in recent decades. The present research sought to analyze how the families of political prisoners and the disappeared during the dictatorship are represented in three short stories from the book "Você vai voltar pra mim e outros contos" (You Will Come Back to Me and Other Stories) by Bernardo Kucinski. The work was published in 2013, and the selected short stories are titled “Joana”, “Tio André”, and “O Velório” (“Joana”, “Uncle Andre” and “The Wake”, respectively). To achieve this, the elements that compose these narratives were analyzed, coupled with theories on how literary writing serves as a way to navigate through trauma. The aim was to understand the resources used by Kucinski to create the characters and how he approached the theme of dictatorship. The results led to interesting reflections that can offer significant contributions to studies in the field.
