Racism, memory and nation: a reading of the novel Torto Arado, by Itamar Vieira Junior

The theme of the research to be developed is Racism, memory and nation - a reading of the novel Torto arado, by Itamar Vieira Junior. The aim is to analyze, based on a reading of Vieira Junior's work, the relationships represented in the novel and their reverberations in discussions about racism, the importance of representing the manifestations of memory of the black population in Brazil and the need to understand the nation as an element that brings together a group of diverse subjects. The discussions to be developed are based on the studies of Jessé Souza (2020), Silvio Almeida (2021), Muniz Sodré (2023), among others, on the racial question and the social stratification resulting from the colonialist and slave system that marked the formation of Brazil.
